Question:
I have been a nurse for 10 years now and working at the same hospital the entire time. I recently left to go work at a new hospital but I first took 3 weeks off. I have heard that mortgage applications need a constant 2 year work history to get a mortgage? Does this rule also apply to USDA home loans?

Answer:
Switching employers is perfectly ok as long as you don’t have a big gap in your employment (over a few months) and you do not change careers. Many people misinterpute this “2 year rule” Basically what USDA / Rural development is looking for is a constant 2 year work history, doesn’t necessarily have to be with the same employer. Taking off a few weeks between jobs is ok. Many USDA home loan applicants can often still get approved with a sizable gap in employment – as long as there is a good explanation ( laid off, illness, etc)
