One of the common questions we receive from many USDA home buyers is “how do I find a list of USDA rural eligible houses for sale?” It’s actually pretty easy! USDA doesn’t have a magic “list” as the program is actually for any move-in condition single-family home located in a USDA-approved area. The important thing is not who is selling the home, but where the home is located.
The property must be located in a designated Rural eligible area according to the USDA property eligibility map. Buyers can see the latest 2024 USDA eligibility map here. Prospective homebuyers can input the property address and search to see if the property is “eligible” or “ineligible”
In addition, you can zoom out to see the shaded ineligible areas as a whole. Sometimes “less is better” when using the search function of the map. If you receive an “invalid” error when searching for a property address, try again without the city name – only input the street number, address, and zip code. The latest Rural Housing eligibility map should stay in place through 2024.
